The Itinerary:

Spend the day at La Salette in Attleboro, MA.  The Christmas Festival of Lights is a gift from the La Salette Missionaries to God’s people.  Christ is the “Light of Life”, and Mary was surrounded by “dazzling light” when she appeared at La Salette in France in 1846.  Thus, light is a very strong symbol at the Shrine and in the Christian Tradition.  This year celebrates the 70th anniversary of the lights.

Have you ever wondered what the following women have in common?  Sarah, Rebekah and Rachel in Genesis (11:30, 25:21, 29:31); Hannah, mother of the prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 1-2); the anonymous wife of Manoah, mother of Samson (Judges 13), and the “great woman of Shunem,” also called the Shunammite, an acolyte of the prophet Elisha (2 Kings 4:8-44).  They were all barren.  They all, however, in the midst of hopelessness, became recipients of God’s visitation in their lives.  As a result of these visitations, they all became unexpected mothers and moved forward God’s love story with humanity.  Later, in the Gospels, yet another woman unexpectedly became a mother as well…Mary of Nazareth.  In her, LOVE IS BORN, thuscompleting the long love story between God and us.  This love story does not end here!  In the past several years, we have lived through unprecedented times.  We’ve witnessed natural disasters, civil and political divisions, and mourned those whom we lost during the pandemic.  Despite all of these challenges, however, our 2023 Christmas Festival reminds us that God still springs forth hope in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ.  Love is Born!

Some points of interest for your visit:  300,000 lights illuminating over 10 acres (starting at 5:00), International Crèche Museum is home to items from around the world (opens at 2:00), the outdoor crèche (with Clopper the Christmas Donkey), mass at 4:00 and 5:30, reconciliation until 4:00, concert performed by Father Pat (at 3:00 and 7:00), bookstore / gift shop, carousel, photos with Saint Nicholas, ride to Bethlehem, hayride, and hot chocolate and cider.  You can also visit the Welcome Center.  During your visit to the Shrine, don’t forget to redeem your meal voucher for dinner in the cafeteria.
