The Itinerary:

Today, explore the sweet side of Vermont!

Spend some time at Morse Farms Maple Sugarworks. The staff there offer 200 years of maple experience.  The Morse family’s eight generation maple experience is shown via live presentations in the farm’s  Sugarhouse.  Enjoy samples of Vermont maple syrup, jams, jellies and more.  There’s an outdoor museum that includes an antique replica of the Vermont State House.  You may even want to wander the gentle maple trail which leads right to the trees where it all begins.  In addition to the samples, the shop is also home to Vermont specialty foods, seasonal produce, and an array of craft and gift items.  Here, partake in a tour.

Lunch will be served at the Trapp Family Lodge.  With A Little of Austria and A Lot of Vermont, the lodge is situated on 2,500 acres in beautiful Stowe.  The Trapp Family Lodge is a unique mountain resort featuring Austrian-inspired architecture and European-style accommodations.  The Lodge offers stunning mountain views and old-world comforts.

This afternoon, head off to the charming Cold Hollow Cider Millfor some free-time.  On a daily basis, cider is made using a traditional rack and cloth press (that was built in the 1920s).  Watch cider being made, see the honey bees busy at work (behind glass), be mesmerized by the donut robot which is used to make upwards of 800 dozen cider donuts (the donuts are made all day, every day) on a busy day, and explore the vintage mill which is now used to display Vermont specialty foods and products.  Perhaps the aromas of the baked goods and the fresh donuts will entice you to bring some delicious treats home with you.

Also today, take a guided tour of the Ben & Jerry’s Factory.  From a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, to far-off places with names we sometimes mispronounce, the journey that began in 1978 with 2 guys and the ice cream business they built is as legendary as the ice cream is euphoric.  Learn how they get so much deliciousness into each scoop, watch a video, see manufacturing equipment, and sample the flavor of the day.  Cap off your visit with a walk through the Flavor Graveyard.  Pay your respects to the dearly de-pinted flavors of years past.
